Kannada groups refuse to budge, will allow Baahubali 2 to release only if Sathyaraj apologises
While the film is all set to release worldwide on 28th April, the ban on the film in Karnataka still holds. Now as per reports on The News Minute, the Baahubali 2 team met up with the Karnataka Film Chamber President Sa Re Govind and senior actor Ambareesh to sort out the issue. The Baahubali 2 team asked to consider the release of the film in the state. But the President refused to budge – “Yes, Rajamouli did meet me and also actor Ambareesh this morning. The director is of the opinion that we are against the release of Telugu films. That is not the case. We have no issues with the film. We have a problem with actor Sathyaraj,” stated Sa Re Govind as per the same report.
“When Sathyaraj, who is from Tamil Nadu, made anti-Kannada statements during the Cauvery crisis, he hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas. Why should we budge? I told Rajamouli to convince Sathyaraj to apologise. We will not change our stand,” he further added. Also Read: Why Kattappa killed Baahubali? – fans have all the answers
Apart from this, Pro-kannada organisation under the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike have actually called for bandh on the day of Baahubali; The conclusion release. Even the President of the Karanataka Rakshnana Vedike was of the same opinion as the President of Karnataka Film Chamber. “Why are directors pleading with the film chamber and senior actors in Karnataka? He had called us dogs during the Cauvery issue. We want a public apology from Sathyaraj, only then will the film be allowed to release in Karnataka,” The film is not onyl facing roadblocks in Karnataka but also Tamil Nadu and most recently in Kerala as well.
In an EXLCUSIVE interview with SS Rajamouli, he defended the movie and slammed the ban – “The saddest thing is people tend to ignore, tend to think it’s a recent issue. The comment Mr Sathyaraj had made was about nine years ago. From out part, we don’t know details of it, what Mr Sathyaraj actually said because we don’t understand Tamil. we know a little but we don’t know what he actually said, we don’t what the objection is of the Kannadigas. The thing is – the comment was made nine years ago, so many of his films released, at least 30 of his films released during this time, Baahubali Part 1 released. There was no objection at that time. It (the ban) is suddenly out of the blue. My thing is that – we are in no way connected with the issue. it’s a very sensitive issue. We don’t know what to talk about that issue, whether our speaking will pacify the matter or instigate the matter in some other way. We don’t know whether keeping quiet is the right thing or talking out is the right thing. We are in a confused state. Main thing is – we are in no way concerned with his statement. Sathya is not the director of the film, not the producer of the film, not the main hero of the film, Turning the anger on Sathyaraj towards Baahubali somehow is not right. we feel it’s not right. Shobu further added, ” It doesn’t affect Sathyaraj anyway. if it at all it affects, it affects the film which has nothing to do with Sathyaraj or his opinion.”
