    Army officer Ummer Fayaz killed in Kashmir

    Fayaz will continue to inspire youth from the Valley"
    Lt Ummer Fayaz from 2 RAJRIF (Rajputana Rifles), who was found dead today morning and was posted in Akhnoor sector would have turned 23 in a month.
    Only five months into service, Fayaz was on leave to attend his cousin sister's wedding at Batapura, near Behibagh. He was abducted by terrorists at around 10 pm on Tuesday and his bullet riddled body was found at Harmen today morning.
    Commissioned on 10 December 2016 Fayaz was a a small apple farmer's son, a bright officer who was good in sports. "He was an ideal officer," said his senior officer remembering him.
    "Loss of the young officers is immense. There are only handful of officers from Kashmir valley. Only 5 months into his career, he was very well liked and bright officer," said another officer.
    According to sources, Army had issued an advisory from time to time asking the personnel going to the Valley, keeping in mind the ongoing unrest, to inform the nearest unit. However like many others Fayaz wanted to enjoy his vacation in peace.
    "Though the Army issues advisories it is best left to individual. Many do not wish to be in communication during their leaves, and Army respects the privacy," the source said.
    GOVERNMENT REACTS
    Defence Minister Arun Jaitley condemned the attack. In a series of tweets he said, "Abduction and murder of LT Fayaz Ummer is a dastadly act of cowardice. We share the grief of family and stand in solidarity. Lt Ummer Fayaz will continue to inspire youth from valley."
    "Lt Ummer Fayaz of 2RAJRIF (Rajputana Rifles) was an exceptional sportsman. His sacrifice reiterates the nation's commitment to eliminate terrorism from the Valley," he added.
    "We share the grief of the family of Lt Ummer Fayaz and stand in solidarity with them. Fayaz will continue to inspire youth from the Valley", the Minister added.
    Minister of State (Home) Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said, "Security forces will take all steps to avenge the death of the Young officer."
    The incident comes amidst rising tensions between civilians and security forces in the Valley.
