Lipstick Under My Burkha is a lesson that Bollywood should learn from.
Lipstick Under My Burkha is only getting better at the box office. After spending a week at ticket windows and getting stiff competition from both Bollywood and Hollywood, the film has only flourished. The constant upswing in its numbers have only made this one of the biggest successes of this year. As of now, the film has earned Rs 10.96 crore at the box office and can be called a hit already.
We already told you how the film is making more money in the weekdays rather than on the first day. It earned Rs 1.25 crore on Thursday to take its total to Rs 10 crore and more. Now, the film is officially a hit. The cost of production for Lipstick Under My Burkha was mere Rs 4.50 crore. If you add the distribution cost (Rs 1.60 crore) and the marketing cost (Rs 0.40 crore), the total budget of the movie comes around Rs 6.50 crore. With the film already raking in Rs 10. 96 crore, you can very well imagine that the people who have invested in the film are laughing all the way to the bank. Looking at the current trends, Lipstick Under My Burkha, which was supposed to make somewhere near Rs 10-15 crore at the box office in its lifetime run, might just go beyond that as well. This would give the movie a considerable profit at the domestic market.

Lipstick Under My Burkha is a huge lesson for Bollywood. The film is devoid of every masala that the industry has ever produced or clung to. No superstar, no larger than life portrayals, no gimmicks or no lavish release. It’s just a simple film reflecting what happens to women in this country which makes you think. It’shigh time Bollywood realises that good content is the only way forward.
