Dilip Kumar is not on ventilator, says niece Shaheen Banu

Veteran actor Dilip Kumar was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital on Wednesday.

While doctors have given an official statement about Dilip Kumar’s condition being critical, his niece has in fact confirmed that the veteran actor’s health is improving. Shaheen Banu, who is daughter of Saira’s brother Sultan Ahmed, on the contrary to what doctors have said, says that Dilip’s condition is now stable. According to a report in Hindustan Times, Shaheen said, “He is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the monitoring, otherwise he is okay. He is sitting on a chair and having normal lunch. He is not on ventilator. He is absolutely conscious, he walks in the room and even in the corridor with a little bit of help. He doesn’t even look like a patient. He is 94 and his water levels have to be normal; we can’t monitor things at home, so we had to bring him to the hospital.” 

With the hospital authorities and Dilip Kumar’s family members having different stories to tell, we don’t really know whom to believe now.

Veteran actor Dilip Kumar was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital on Wednesday. He has suffered a health setback. As per a statement by Dr Jalil Parkar, one of the city’s best known pulmonologists, the veteran actor’s kidneys are not functioning properly. In a statement to DNA, he said, “His kidney functions have not improved. On the contrary, it has worsened. He is on the ventilator. We will be able to give a proper briefing in the morning.” The actor who complained of dehydration was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital earlier this week. 

Dilip, who was last seen on the big screen in Qila in 1998, was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015. Dilip Kumar got married to Saira Banu, who is over 20 years younger to him, in 1966. They celebrated 50 years of marriage last year.
