    Sonu Nigam has pledged Rs 5 Lakh to the braveheart driver who saved the lives of the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims

    Singer Sonu Nigam has stepped up to pledge Rs 5 Lakh to the driver for his courage and for saving the lives of many.

    The events of July 11 are still fresh on our mind. The heinous shootings on pilgrims of Amarnath yatra by terrorists were what nightmares are made of. Attack on the pilgrims were a new low by terrorists. About 7 people were killed and 30 injured. The casualty could’ve drastically increased, had it not been for the courage and wit of the bus driver, Sheikh Saleem Gafoor. The story about how he secured the lives of people in the bus became a talking point. People have since been lauding him for his bravery. Singer and philanthropist Sonu Nigam has stepped up to pledge Rs 5 Lakh to the driver for his courage and for saving the lives of many.
    A source told Indianexpress.com, “Mr Nigam was really moved by the driver’s courage and his presence of mind. He made sure that the driver was tracked down and ensured that the money reached him safely. It’s an inspiring gesture by Sonu ji, as he made sure that such unsung heroes are awarded.” On the same, when the singer was contacted, he confirmed the information and added, “Such people are always given a bravery award or medal for their actions by the government. But they should be financially rewarded for their goodness and amazing presence of mind. Sometimes, it makes a lot of difference in doing what you want to do and what needs to be done in situations like this.”
    The singer has often been involved in social services and has voiced for them as well. The incident shook the entire nation as this act brought a new divide in religion. Lot of celebrities condemned the act as they shunned the terrorists. Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Randeep Hooda, Anupam Kher, Madhur Bhandarkar, Huma Qureshi, Gul Panag, Varun Dhawan and Shah Rukh Khan reacted to the incident. Right after the attack, the yatra resumed as many pilgrims continued going on the pilgrimage
