Will Ranbir Kapoor’s Jagga Jasoos be his worst opening?

Ranbir Kapoor’s Jagga Jasoos has finally hit the screens and while the enthusiasm was high, looks like the film hasn’t fared well at the ticket windows. The movie has opened to an occupancy of just 20 per cent in the morning, making it Ranbir’s worst openings of recent times. In fact, the actor’s biggest flop, Bombay Velvet had a similar opening occupancy. This has made us wonder if Jagga Jasoos will give Ranbir his worst opening yet?

Jagga Jasoos has fetched mixed reviews, but the general public, who has seen it, has been praising the movie. With more than 1800 screens and a decent word-of-mouth publicity, Jagga Jasoos can surely expect to see growth. In fact, Jagga Jasoos has got a better story and a better reviews than Bombay Velvet, so obviously it should do better. Talking about the collections, our trade expert, Amul Mohan (Editor of Super Cinema), mentioned to us, “Right now, we can’t say much. Probably, by the end of the day we will know it better. The movie anyway has released in lesser number of screens. So can’t really quantify if people are coming to the theatres on not.” However, he did add that the limited release will help Jagga Jasoos rake in the moolah.

Exhibitor and distributor, Akshaye Rathi had also mentioned how a vast majority of kids are excited for the movie and hence, it will perform well over the weekend. Obviously, school might have been a restricting factor on Friday, but we might see a spike on Saturday and Sunday. This would surely propel Jagga Jasoos past Rs 20 crore over the weekend and hence, a better opening than Bombay Velvet (Rs 16.90 crore).
