    Babumoshai Bandookbaaz quick movie review

Nawazuddin Siddiqui excels as the lovelorn assassin with a fetish for shades in the first half

Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bidita Bag‘s Babumoshai Bandookbaaz has been in news for quite a few reasons. There was a time when Nawazuddin called out Bollywood for its racist attitude. Then the movie ran into trouble with the Censor Board who suggested a staggering 48 cuts for the movie. Thankfully, FCAT passed the movie with just eight minor cuts, as per the makers. So we wondered what was the whole brouhaha all about. Our reviewer – Sreeju Sudhakaran is watching the movie as we speak and by the end of the first half, he was impressed with Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s brilliant act. Check out what Sreeju had to say right here…
“Babu, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, is a contract killer in UP with a fetish for sunglasses and a care-no-damn attitude. He is considered the most dangerous assassin in the area and often hired by two powerful politicians (Anil George and Divya Dutta). During a contract, he meets and falls for a feisty shoemaker, played by Bidita Bag and kills two men for her. This sours his relationship with the lady politician. Things get further complicated when he is hired to kill three men of hers and he has to compete with a younger assassin for the same contract

Babumoshai Bandookbaaz aims to be a dark comedy and going by its first half, it largely succeeds in doing justice to its genre. While the subject and the setting are definitely gritty, Kushan Nandy, the director, has adeptly incorporated humor in the narrative. The dialogues play well to the gallery and Nawazuddin Siddiqui excels once again as the killer with that special swag. Bidita Bag is a revelation; she matches up to Nawaz at every step. And although their love story has a hasty start, it gets developed well as the movie moves forward. Their lovemaking scenes are well-shot and the supporting cast is good too. The big issue is most of the scenes are spoiled in the trailer, including the interval twist. Hoping the second half offers more unspoiled surprises.”
